What is a "Backlink"? And why do you need it?

If you're new to blogging, back-links are simply "your" links located in another website that points or opens your webpage when clicked. The more backlinks you have, the more "popular" your website is! The more popular your website gets, the more traffic you will get! It will provide you with an opportunity to get your message across to more people and get more regular readers.

The number of back-links also determine your website's search engine ranking. The higher you are ranked for a particular keyword, the easier for people to find you.

Although back-links are indeed essential in building your website's credibility. It is not just the number of back-links that determines it all. The quality and relevance of the websites where your back-links are located also plays an important role.

Higher "Pagerank"=More "attractive" your site gets.

being attractive means your blog becomes an authority. Authority means you'll gets more readers interested on your site and more people will want to link with you. As more people link with you, you can get more readers.

The number of readers can get mean a lot for some people. Huge traffic can mean different things to different people. Some can capitalize on their big traffic to earn on advertisement. Some can reach out to more people to help or just express their minds.


How do you get backlinks?

For those who want to play fair and build their back-links naturally themselves, it is both easy and hard. Easy in the sense that all you have to do is register it to hundreds if not thousands of directories out there on the net. Hard because you have to do it yourselves...manually! It takes effort and time to get registered with several directories. Search Engine Optimization tools will tell you that you would need to get at least 100 backlinks to even be considered for a future pagerank estimation.

My first time building back-links for a particular blog took me several hours to get registered with only 15 directories. That's because I don't just register with any directory out there. I developed a system of registering sites to make sure the link popularity and future pagerank is protected.
